Following
the great success of AsiaSat 1 and the increasing
demand for more quality satellite capacity in the
region, AsiaSat's second satellite, AsiaSat 2, was
launched on 28th November, 1995.
AsiaSat 2 is a Lockheed Martin Series 7000 model,
the latest in the series manufactured by Lockheed
Martin Astro Space. The communications payload comprises
twenty 36 MHz and four 72 MHz C-band as well as
nine 54 MHz Ku-band linearised transponders. AsiaSat
2, located at 100.5 degrees East, provides unprecedented regional power and coverage. With the 55 watts travelling wave tube amplifiers, the C-band beam covers 53
countries and regions in Asia, the Middle East,
Eastern Europe, CIS and Australasia. Each of the
Ku-band transponders radiates 115 watts of power
to the Greater China Region, Japan and Korea. |
